The Ionian Sea is located between the southern tip "toe" of the Italian peninsula and Greece. It is an extremely interesting place to visit, as it is not only historically significant, it is the place where western civilization began about 3000 years ago.
There are many towns along the way to visit, most notably Taranto, located within the Italian 'boot'. This name is also the root of the two famous things: the giant wolf spider Tarantula, and the dance danced one bitten: the Tarantella!
The weather here remains warm for most of the year, and sweltering during the summer months! The sea has a reputation for being blue and beautiful. There are also many beautiful wildlife aspects to be found here, such as brightly coloured birds and fish.
