Calabria is the "toe" of the Italian Peninsula, and has a population of approximately 2 million people. Due to it being so far south, it is renowned for it's sunny and extremely hot weather during the summer - perfect for an extreme tan! It is also ideal for yachters, as the seas remain calm almost all year round. The region covers 15'800 square kilometres, and is part of the country of Italy.
It is seperated from Sicily by the strait of Messina, which at its thinnest point is only 3.2km accross. Plans exist to build the worlds largest suspension bridge accross this strait. Once completed, the bridge would be over twice as long as the current longest suspension bridge in Japan. Plans are for the bridge to be completed in 2012. Will you be the first to sail UNDERNEATH it?
